Our Approach to Sustainability

Our GOM Focus

We recognize that our long-term success depends on our ability to leverage our expertise and responsibly execute our growth strategy. We focus our efforts entirely in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, which has inherent advantages to responsible growth.

The deepwater GOM enjoys a carbon intensity significantly lower than that of all other oil-producing regions in the US. The small carbon footprint is driven by the existence of a well-established infrastructure, strong primary reservoir drive mechanisms, high production efficiency per well, and GOM regulatory limitations on flaring.

Environmentally Responsible

We respect the environment and seek to prevent adverse impacts

By adopting best practices in environmental stewardship and reporting, we respect the environment. We endeavor to use resources efficiently and responsibly through the application of appropriate technical solutions and regular monitoring. We are committed to reducing our lifetime emissions intensity. We are committed to reducing waste and recycling where possible. We recognize the importance of protecting and conserving biodiversity.

We work transparently with government regulators to ensure operational safety and protection of the environment.  We plan for an effective and timely response to potential emergencies that could impact personnel, the environment, local communities, or our assets. Training, exercises, and drills are conducted with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve our response readiness.

Socially Responsible

Our People are Valued, Empowered, and Engaged

Our challenging deepwater projects attract the best kind of talent – experienced, excited, and collaborative. We treat each other with respect and value diversity and inclusion.

Beacon is laser-focused on the safety of operations, people, and the environment. We provide professional HSE guidance around the clock during all offshore operations, and each drillship has a fully equipped hospital and medic on board to attend to any injury or illness. We are proud of our results: in our first four years of drilling activity, we achieved below industry averages on each HSE metric, including incidents of non-compliance, reportable spills, and injury/illness metrics.

Audits and reviews of our SEMS have never resulted in issues of concern. A third-party safety study of the entire Beacon team – employees and contractors – found Beacon to have a “proactive safety culture.” This proactive approach to safety indicates our leadership focus and our internal values are fully aligned, producing our better-than-industry safety record. We are committed to staying focused on this important topic as we grow.

Team Beacon Cares (TBC), an all-volunteer internal team, provides occasional social events which encourage team spirit. TBC also selects charitable causes that support local needs and allow us to build camaraderie. TBC encourages volunteerism and charitable giving.

Responsible Governance

Sustainability Oversight, Feedback and Improvement

Our Board of Managers provides oversight of the Company’s sustainability performance through quarterly reports and meetings. Our CEO and Chairman of the Board oversees the Company’s sustainability activities, ESG-related metrics, any impacts of our operations, and our disclosures. Our Board members have significant oil and gas industry experience, financial expertise, and ESG oversight experience.

We require high ethical standards of our employees, contractors and vendors. We routinely audit our vendors for ESG factors, HSE metrics, and various global sanctions lists, and only select vendors who can meet our legal, insurance, ESG and HSE standards. We have adopted a Code of Business Conduct for our internal team, and a Vendor Code of Conduct for our vendors. (Click here for the Vendor Code.)

We provide 24/7 reporting methods to all Beacon Team members and our vendors to report concerns, questions, or prohibited conduct. We prohibit all forms of retaliatory conduct for reports. Our reporting methods include the use of a reputable outside vendor who is able to maintain confidentiality and anonymity, if desired by the reporter.
